Reiki
Reiki (Pronounced ray-key) is a laying-on of hands healing technique thousands of years old. Reiki was re-discovered in the late 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese. It is a very simple yet powerful technique that can be learned by anyone.

Origins
Mikao Usui was born on 15th August 1865 in southern Japan. Although he never received formal training as an allopathic doctor, he was bestowed with his title in his lifetime, in recognition of his commitment to heal where ever he saw suffering. This illustrates his universal and all embracing approach to sharing the gift he found with those in need of love everywhere.
Workings of Reiki
Our lives are dependent on the Life Force flowing through us- through pathways such as, energy centers, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in an aura of energy field.
Life Force nourishes the organs and cells of the body for optimum functioning. When this Life Force flow is disrupted, the functions are diminished. Life Force is also responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept either consciously or unconsciously negative thoughts or feelings about self and these attach themselves to the energy field, diminishing the vital functions of the organs and cells.
Reiki heals by charging the affected parts of the energy field with positive energy and boosting the immune system of the body.
The energy centers
Aura is a latin word meaning glow of light. Aura is used to denote an invisible energy field or the etheric body which surrounds and follows the contours of the physical body and permeates it. The etheric body is the first layer of the aura and is the state between energy and matter. They are connected to fine energy channels running along the spine. Without them the physical body cannot exist. There are seven layers of these energies. The aura can change color, size and structure according to the mental and emotional state of the person.
The Centers serve as gateways for the flow of Life Force into our physical bodies. Each Center is associated with a certain part of the body and certain organs.
The hand positions of the Reiki treatment correspond with the body's endocrine glandular system and the seven main Energy Centers. On an energetic level the endocrine glands correspond to the seven main Centers. Thus through Reiki, the Energy Centers can be balanced so that the energy flows without disturbance.
